Will you benefit from Better Broadband for Suffolk?

How to check if you will get a fibre broadband upgrade from the BBFS scheme.

1. Enter your telephone number into the BT checker and see if the results shows a cabinet.

e.g. "Telephone Number 017286xxxxx on Exchange WESTLETON is served by Cabinet 1"

If you see NO cabinet number you are on an Exchange Only (EO) line and pretty much out of luck and won't see anything for at least 2 years as it requires additional funding. This is because you are wired directly to the exchange.

2. Assuming you are not on an exchange only line, enter your postcode into the BBFS checker.

If you are going to get a cabinet upgrade you will get the following result with a rough timescale.
"Please see the timeline shown on the map which indicates when better broadband will start arriving in your parish. We are currently planning the rollout in your area, and more information will be made available as soon as possible"
Or, if unlucky, a message like the one below;

"This postcode is currently within the Suffolk Better Broadband intervention programme and subject to our minimum commitment of 2Mbps by 2015. However we do not have a current date for fibre deployment. We are however actively seeking additional funding to introduce fibre deployment into our plans for this area as soon as possible as we look to push our 90% fibre coverage higher."

However, don't completely dispair if you are not going to benefit. There are alternative methods of getting faster broadband which we can advise on and would be pleased to discuss with you!

Rade sponsor agri-food conference

Suffolk IT consultancy Rade is sponsoring the European Food and Farming Partnerships (EFFP) annual conference. Rade have provided IT and telecoms support to EFFP for the past 7 years, supporting both their headquarters and regional staff and over-seeing upgrades to their computer network and Internet connections.

This year’s EFFP conference, entitled Food GB: Stepping up to the plate, takes place at Plaisterer’s Hall in London on 2nd November. It will bring together business leaders from across the food and farming sectors.  Speakers include Steve Easterbrook, chief executive of McDonalds UK, and broadcaster Rosie Boycott, representing the London Food Board.

Rade managing director Jake Barton says: “The IT systems we design enable colleagues to share resources and highlight the benefits to be had from collaboration using the web. We are, therefore, pleased to sponsor the EFFP conference which will demonstrate how combining expertise from farming and food industries leads to business success.”

Note to Editors:

Rade IT Systems specialise in the design and management of office and EPoS networks. Since launching in 2001, they have built up a diverse client list from across many sectors of industry who are supported by a growing team of skilled IT staff.

Rade procure Dell server for tech college

A technology-focused school needs a reliable computer network so Rade are often asked for advice in sourcing servers and desktops. One of our customers has added a further Dell PowerEdge 2950 rackmount server and tape backup unit to the existing server network. This client also favours Dell for workstations in their IT suite, so we procured 20 Dell Latitude E5400 laptops, with backup batteries to keep them running smoothly.

Santa delivery on Christmas Eve

In the twilight of Christmas Eve in snowy Suffolk, Rade came to the rescue of a man in a Santa hat waiting for delivery of a notebook PC. This last minute gift was delivered to the door (or rather through the hedge) as a surprise gift for his student daughter.

The Acer TravelMate laptop provides stylish and professional portability. More importantly, rigorous testing guarantees years of long-lasting, comfortable use.

While we enjoy spreading Christmas cheer we would like to remind customers to allow plenty of time for Christmas deliveries. We’ll do our very best to get your purchases to you as quickly as possible but remember warehouses and couriers are working to capacity and we can only arrange delivery to you when the goods reach us.

Hawkin’s Bazaar opens 100th retail store

Rade recently installed the EPOS system at gift retailer Hawkin’s Bazaar 100th store.

Well that's not entirely true.....

Every year Hawkin's Bazaar open "Christmas shops" so, if we add the 40 we opened last year, 35 the year before, 15 in 2006 and 10 in 2005, we have now opened in excess of 200 stores with around 600 EPOS tills and 200 supporting pc’s together with provisioning telephone lines, broadband and Cisco VPN infrastructure.

On top of this we provide 7 days a week, 8am to 10pm, EPOS and hardware support services.

We don’t think that is bad for 4 years work and we still have another 20 stores to provision by December!

Rade supplies equipment for rainforest web cam

When Rade is asked to procure a surveillance camera system it is usually to protect our customer’s property or staff. The Axis wireless network camera is a high performance camera designed for professional video surveillance. For outdoor use, a weather-proof housing including a heater and sunshield is available. This camera was supplied with housing as it is being used to film in the Cloud Forest of Ecuador.

WLT’s Webcam in the Forest project was launched at an event held at the Linnean Society of London attended by the WLT’s patron, Sir David Attenborough. The webcam is situated in the forest at Buenaventura Reserve in Ecuador. Live footage will be streamed on the Wildlife Focus website from 1st February 2008.

WLT is an international conservation charity based in Halesworth, Suffolk. WLT preserves wildlife habitat by raising funds to enable overseas NGOs to purchase and protect important areas as nature reserves. Since 1989, WLT has helped purchase and protect over 400,000 acres of habitats rich in wildlife.

Rade build wireless bridge for WLT

Rade have supplied and implemented a wireless bridge system which provides leading conservation charity, The World Land Trust, a link to their new administration offices.

The Cisco Aironet 1310 based system provides for both traditional network access and telecoms via a new voice over IP (VOIP) telephone system. Rade not only provided the system, but carried out a wireless survey and liased with other contractors to ensure the system came up to the World Land Trust's requirements and was delivered on time.

Office manager, Viv Burton said: "I wanted to say thank you for the brilliant work you did on our network to new office. The computers and phones are working stunningly well and it is extremely impressive what you were able to achieve!"

The World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation organisation that takes direct action to save rainforest and other biologically important lands — they buy it, acre by acre. The wilderness areas they buy are protected indefinitely as private reserves owned and managed by local organisations for the benefit of both wildlife and people.
